The Zones of Kaziranga
Kaziranga National Park is divided into several safari zones, each offering a different view of Assam’s famous grasslands, wetlands, and semi evergreen forests. Every zone has its own character, wildlife mix, and landscape. Together, they create a complete experience of Kaziranga’s rich biodiversity.
The park has four main jeep safari zones and an elephant safari zone. Each zone is known for strong rhino sightings, large elephant herds, swamp deer, wild buffalo, and excellent birdlife.
Zones of Kaziranga
Kohora Zone (Central Range)
Kohora is the most popular zone in Kaziranga. It offers open views of rhinos grazing in meadows, elephant herds, and a wide range of wetland birds. The tracks here pass through grasslands, small forest patches, and water bodies. It is ideal for first time visitors.
Bagori Zone (Western Range)
Bagori is known for close rhino sightings. This zone has wide grasslands and marsh areas, which attract many animals. Bagori is also one of the best zones to see wild buffaloes. The scenic wetlands make it popular among photographers.
Agoratoli Zone (Eastern Range)
Agoratoli has dense forests, open river edges, and large beels. This zone is very good for birdwatching. Many migratory birds gather here during winter. Wildlife is active around the water bodies, and sightings of elephants and deer are common.
Burapahar Zone (Ghorakati Range)
Burapahar has hilly terrain, patches of forest, and long stretches of bamboo. This zone feels quieter and more natural. It is good for spotting elephants, macaques, and a variety of birds. The landscape is different from the central grasslands.
Northern Range (Biswanath):
A less frequently mentioned administrative range located in the Biswanath district.
